Heeeelllooo Wednesday, so happy you finally made it. Today is THEE day I start avoiding any and all malls, boutiques, department stores, home stores & the biggest culprit. Target. Today I begin my No Shopping Challenge!
Lemme tell you what began this crazy idea. I am by far the worst person when it comes to money. Each month when my bank account fills back up I shop and I shop till I drop…literally. My arms drop from all the bags I am carrying. Yesterday I was reading thru my daily blog lovin’ feed & came across this post on Style Within Reach blog. That’s when I started to think…”I am always looking for a challenge & already signed up to do a cleanse. Why don’t I ALSO cleanse myself of shopping!”
Brilliant or not, I will probably hate myself in a couple months. Yet, my hopes are high that during these next couple months I will learn to live life more and feel better about having saved up some moolah. 2 months & 2 weeks may not seems long to you but it’s a freakin’ eternity to me! I have never gone longer than one week without purchasing something I didn’t need. Luckily my boyfriend loved this idea & decided to start it with me! Yesssss. Do not worry readers, I will still be paroosing the web daily but while keeping my credit card out of harms way.
Updates to follow next week but in the meantime here is a list of what I hope to benefit. Wish me luck!
Positive outcomes:
|1| Save Save Save. I am hoping to build up my savings account and gain control over what I spend.
|2| Be more creative. 60% of the clothes in my closet have not been worn since 2 winters ago. This will hopefully help me use my creativity to curate some new outfits. Use my pinterest board to find some inspiration.
|3| Experience it. Too often I spend all my money on non-essentials items that I miss out on trying a new restaurant, seeing a play or snagging that last minute comedy show ticket. Maybe by passing up shopping I will also make some time to paint? I am almost positive it’s collecting dust by now.

I have done this before – it really put things into perspective. I shop much less now than I used to and actually don’t mind!
Good luck!
thx Ashley
It’s seriously such a good idea! Good luck with it!
Thanks! It’ll be tough!
This is a great challenge….stuff at the end of the day weighs us down. And how fun to look at older things in your closet and reinvigorate them and give them a new look! You will be so happy when your savings grows
So true. I am hoping to save some $$ for a little trip
I am starting this too! I have a serious problem! Shoppers arm, shopping bags all over my new house, popping tags everyday it has to go! What is your stop date?
Thanks Kate! I am going to go to till end of March!
Wow, a shopping cleanse? That’s pretty ballsy! I say I am going to save & not spend, but then I get my paycheck and it’s all over… le sigh! Good luck lovie! Maybe one day I will find the balls to do this.
